  3. Guy Gavriel Kay? He's an astonishingly good writer. One of those who can write such beautiful material that he has me blubbing as I read...not that that's a recommendation, but his books are absolutely outstanding. The Summer Tree is the first part of a fantasy trilogy, but he also writes brilliant alternate history books e.g. Middle Ages France, Moorish Spain etc.
