REVIEW: The Path to Horn Cottage - Prudence S Thomas

This debut in the 'Cunning Folk Mystery' series, set in an alternate version of Lancashire in Medieval times, is an intriguing read and an excellent adventure thriller.

The author is erudite in herbal lore and its magical use, which is at the core of the central character, a 'cunning' or wise-woman of a small village. The author's knowledge as a Forensic Psychologist pervades throughout the work and helps shape a depth of story the reader can easily be absorbed into.

I lost myself swiftly to the twists and turns of the adventures of Meryall, Cunning Woman of Horn Cottage, and her vibrantly portrayed companions. This is a sumptuous read, with a sound plot that is hard to put down. If it were not for festivities interrupting me (I read it over Christmas Eve to Boxing Day) it would undoubtedly have been read in one sitting.

I heartily recommend it to any who enjoy Medieval history, fantasy and the magic arts. I look forward to the next instalment of the Cunning Folk Mysteries!
